Forest
Leafless trees and evergreens,
weighted, gleaming white with
boughs bowing groundward
Small tracks, trails, and paths
through cold white mounds, between
straw textured tufts, around trees
and in the hollowed lees
Sparkling drips from boughs above
reflect the strengthening sun, magnifies
the fragrance of melt and thawing ground
Puddles gather in low places,
melt flows on the surface and below,
refreshes and quenches re-emerging green
the late winter forest in repose

I did not expect the Amtrak picture at the end. It changed my entire reading of the poem. I wish I could describe nature like you do. I can feel its beauty when I’m out hiking, but I can’t write about it.
Your artwork really drew me in. I have been researching Dali’s work today and think that I can understand the modern and surreal a little better now. It’s about letting go, in a way.

I like little twists and unexpected outcomes. It’s my perverse nature, I guess. Describing nature is the same as describing your inner demons/angels. I let myself picture the details I’d like to describe and work the words (as much as I ever ‘work’ them) to express the emotion I’m feeling or want to express.
Yes, I think all meaningful art is about letting go, at least in abstract climes, but for me that’s also true in my poetry. I know others will disagree, that’s only my perspective.

I like twists too. I have never thought of comparing nature to my inner self. That is a very profound idea that I will have to contemplate.
I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment. I like writing poetry with rules and forms, but I most enjoy just letting it all flow without thought and then editing it a little later. I do not know if I can still call it stream of consciousness. You have read my poems, so you know what I’m talking about.

Unless I’m struck dumb by the artistry by which I render my creative expression, I always go back and edit. As futile as it might appear, I do try to make my creations at least semi-understandable, including my writing. I only slightly edit my stream of consciousness writing (spelling mostly). If it makes no sense, I just trash it, try again later.
