I spent much time alone reading, writing in my journal, or just sleeping, trying to recapture the innocence so long gone. Sometimes I’d see him in a dream, walking by a stream, conversing with a dragonfly about its long life, or the philosophical ramifications of flight. But only a glimpse, then he was gone and all the intervening years rained in, full-blown, suffocating, drowning.

I met my second wife-to-be, and the healing after my ‘surgery’ began. I started to smile. Life began to look promising again, and it was. Good things were happening all around me. Truth, Beauty, and Justice were in force after all, at least in my dreams
