Existential Threats Culminating
We can debate anything you’d like, but debating answers nothing… And there really is no “genuine” debate when it comes to our (humans) and especially our systems, i.e. capitalism, imperialism, feudalism, fascism, etc., and of course, religions’ impact on our planet and the life thereon…
While it’s true that we don’t “know” exactly what will happen and when; the evidence is pretty conclusive as to the final outcome if we don’t change course. A great extinction IS underway. Whether we will join the extinct is not really in question, only at what point in time we join the 99.9% of all the other species that have already disappeared.
Not to worry, it “probably” won’t happen in our lifetime, but the next few generations may not be able to say that… We also have a super volcano in Yellowstone. The last time it erupted, it wiped out all life on this continent and helped bring on the last ice age. If that doesn’t get us, then there’s the Andromeda Galaxy that is on a collision course with the Milky Way Galaxy (that’s us, by the way)… while that collision is still a few hundred million years out… it is inevitable.
But more probably, we’ll do it to ourselves with some idiotic religious/partisan/ideologic zealots getting a hold of and using some of the 17 thousand or so nuclear warheads scattered around the world, plus however many more we (masters of war) and others like us build in the years to come… While we try to cope with and fix some of these problems, we also must hope to evolve beyond our current version of Homo Sapiens Sapiens (or however we may be classified… post-extinction). Or do we just subscribe to that old adage, ‘Eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow ye die’?

An excellent commentary, Liam. The masters of war are betting human lives in their mad game of monopoly, but losing more of their souls with each throw of the dice. Near human extinction seems inevitable if things don’t change soon.
