Get Real

You hear it all the time, but what is ‘real’?

‘Real’ is a human idea, as are all ideas. Ideas on the nature of reality have evolved with our bodies, brains, and social psyches. And just as all life continues to evolve, or go extinct, our ideas of ‘reality’ also continue to evolve.

Currently, there are (always have been, and probably always will be) those who cling to the past out of fear (fear of change, for a multitude of reasons – rationalizations, usually over the potential loss of power or property). They are the ones who continually drag humanity and understanding back three steps for every four we take forward in understanding toward a truly cooperative civilization.

It’s usually only a few who (having established themselves in power) fear change the most (sociopaths and psychopaths, all). They stoke fear in any who will listen–usually followers and the less thoughtful, and too frequently succeed in slowing down progress to human potential. They are the ones who always counsel for exceedingly slow, gradual progression toward any more freedom and equality for all. They hate real democracy, preferring monarchies, dictatorships, almost any authoritarian top-down rule, very often theocratic — the best way to dictate thought, speech, and ideas, also known as ‘reality’.

Nietzsche suggested that current views of reality are a function of power, not ‘truth’. The evolution of ideas is stifled and controlled by established powers — those who currently run our world with greed, force, and deceit, along with their duped, fearful followers and cynical lickspittles.

Fortunately, you can’t stop evolution. The only problem is that human evolution is relatively slow, and at the rate our owners are destroying our home, we probably don’t have enough time to evolve sufficiently (as a truly logical, compassionate, and enlightened civilization) before extinction… So, not enough time for Evolution; we need Revolution NOW! That’s getting real. Or, as I previously suggested (tongue-in-cheek), we can ‘eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we …’. Choices, Choices… I’d like to be hopeful, but… Look around…
