A Mother’s Legacy
mother brought up her
sons to be romantics
yes daughters too all
hoping for the ONE the
TRUE soulmate who makes
all things right
they all told themselves
they were good at heart
the soulmate would see
that from the start
mend the skeptical
the broken hearts
since all relationships
end and some before
they start as indoctrinated
romantics grasp and cling
refuse to accept the
sensible the inevitable
life is a journey we
travel with little to no
control over who and how
we encounter fellow travelers
along our circumscribed paths
from birth to death
and ‘soulmates’ I’m afraid
is likely a romantic myth
propagated by vested interests
rejecting responsibility for
their own happiness
or lack of it
but taking my view isn’t required
and we’ve all hopefully learned to
take most of life with a huge grain
of salt as the ancients remind us
those who know don’t say
and those who say don’t know
So judge for yourself with open eyes

Today’s media has ruined our ideas of human relationships imo, by indoctrinating us with ideas of ‘The One. ‘ There’s nothing wrong with fantasy, until people think that they’re entitled to it in their reality and then end up miserable.

Agreed, but not just today’s media. This has been a mindset since the middle ages, at least, at least in the stories and legends that made their way into our education systems…; -)
