IDPI – Memoir Continued

IDPI – International Data Processing Institute

After graduation, I applied to and was accepted to IDPI on Cleveland’s near east side downtown. I drove there at first in the ‘61 Dodge Dad had gifted me for graduating high school. It was clean, had no rust, and ran well. Had a 3 speed shifter on the steering column. After it was totaled by a drunk driver turning into me, I rode the bus. This was the time of the Hough riots in Cleveland. The bus station was always teeming with cops in riot gear. It was a short walk from there to the building IDPI was using for evening classes.

I did not graduate due to a couple of incidents related to the bus travel at the time, which I won’t get into here. I only finished 2 months’ worth of classes, but did get the basics of circuit board wiring, punch card reading/typing, and a bit of coding. But, I started at Lorain Community College (LCCC) or (LC³) at the beginning of the fall quarter ’67.
