Some Early Signs of the Inevitable(?) End

A few months into my stint at Kinetico, Anne was promoted to Head Editor of SWE Magazine. She also wanted to earn more and applied for an editorial position at Case Western Reserve University that came to her attention through those same Buddhist friends who had lent her the money to go to Japan before Sean was born.

She asked me to revise and update her Curriculum Vita (I had also done her original Vita for the Dali Museum), which I did and was pleased that the university accepted and validated it by hiring her as an assistant editor for one of their History (I think… it was a long time ago) departments.

While Anne was learning her role at SWE, they gave her a new MAC computer and editorial and publication software. Then, they set up lessons with a pro so she could learn the software. She was having problems with it even after completing her lessons. I was a Windows, DOS, and Basic practitioner. She asked me to look at her MAC and see if I could help her with it. I didn’t like it as much as what I was used to, but I did figure it out. Most of her initial computer work for SWE was either done or edited by me.

Our relationship got even worse, just when I thought it should have been getting better. I suspect that she was just holding off on getting rid of me until she felt secure with both her new jobs and the resulting income spike. Or, perhaps I’m just being cynical again…
