I brought this up a year ago and wrote several poems and screeds referencing it since then as well; time to consider it again…
The Elephant in the Room
Sometimes, I get so tired of thinking and writing about it; or perhaps disallutioned is a better word for it. Nothing seems to change significantly, even though most of us know that it must for the survival of our species for more than a generation or two to come.
Where is the involvement of the masses? That’s the only thing that may possibly force the basic changes necessary to avoid climate or all the other manmade, imminent disasters as we head for our beds each evening… Global strikes are the only tool available to us. Our owners will do nothing if their pocketbooks don’t suffer. Yes, that will mean hardships for us all. But less hardship, nothing changes, except for the worse… unfortunately. History has made that very clear to anyone willing to read it and learn from it.
And no ‘intervention’ will be too extreme for the powers that be, those who ‘own’ it all, including us (at least in their own minds). They will send in everything at their disposal (including provocateurs to incite violence — to justify their violent intervention) to put down any strikes, sit-downs, sit-ins, ‘love-ins’, eat-ins, or whatever action we may take to stop ‘business as usual’… as ‘business as usual’ is what’s doing us in. And yes, they have the means, wealth, and power to do that, to do whatever they feel justified in doing to protect their wealth and status.
