Philips Medical 2007 – Memoir Continued

My home in Ravenna before retirement –LE

Philips Medical – Summer of 2007

I was placed at Philips Medical on Cleveland’s far east side by another temp agency. That’s where I worked as a technical writer until I retired. I’ve already written a little about that experience. But this is where it falls chronologically in my story.

Even though it was only a full-time temp job with no benefits, it paid more than I’d been making for the previous few years. Thus, I was able to get all my outstanding debts cleared up before I retired two years later. Living very simply, I was able to even put away a couple of grand in my savings account to retire on.

But that also meant that I’d not be able to afford living in northern OH after retirement unless I continued to work… perhaps as a Walmart greeter? Sorry, not for me. I had learned to be an ascetic in my progressively minimalist lifestyle over the years since my last divorce. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention. I found that I could live on a meager income, getting myself ready for Social Security and all that entails.
