Vacation in Tucson AZ 2018
In early October, Tina and I took a trip to Tucson to visit her son, Scott. We hadn’t gone anywhere since our last trip to Savannah in 2015.
We had just bought a new car (2018 Chevy Spark) in July and were pretty confident that it would make the 3-day (for us) trip comfortably. We stopped in St. Louis on the way and had dinner out with Ian and his good friend, Kristine. They had hosted me when I was in town for the Big Muddy Blues Fest the last couple of years that I attended.
We spent the first night in a Motel 6 near Joplin MO and continued on to Amarillo TX for our final night before arriving in Tucson. And yes, Tina brought Che (our rescue Chihuahua mix) with us. He was well behaved in the car and in the motel rooms we used.
Tina had arranged an Airbnb stay for us near where Scott lived, close to the University of Arizona. We had the place for 5 days. It was a large one-room space with an attached bathroom and enclosed porch. During our time there, we fell in love with Tucson. The flora and fauna is so different from what we were used to. But we loved it, the austere beauty of the High Sonoran Desert. And it was warm and sunny. There was one evening with some gentle rain, but it only lasted the evening and was warm and sunny in the morning.
Scott took us to the Botanical Gardens, the Desert Museum, and many other points of interest. It was shortly after we got back home that we decided to move there. Tina put her house up for sale, and we started putting our moving plans into motion.
