April’s Last Morning on the Loop Tucson
horizon to horizon, a cerulean dome
not a cloud in the sky
Sol’s long, warm morning rays
cast another perfect day
a slight breeze bobs the heavy
Oleander blossoms up and down
side to side on their long green stems
arching toward the ground all around
Silverbell Lake is placid and still
fishermen snoozing in their camp chairs
their poles lightly arched, their lines
sink into the lake’s serene surface
a large Schwarzenegger-looking lizard
is doing push-ups and sunning himself
as we approach, he exits ‘stage left’
into the shoulder’s long shadows
while a Prariedog sits at the edge
grooming itself for who knows what
doesn’t bother to move as we
lightly roll by, singin’ bye, bye…
black and yellow stripes flash
as the buzz zings by, near collision
curiosity satisfied… for now
as a small white moth randomly flits
Julian Wash Archeological Park
is hot, it’s ‘happening’-not
empty but for indigenous flora
the fauna hidden away, waiting(?)
back home after 3 hours
in the morning sun, slightly baked
recumbent resting, waiting for May
day and another Tucson Loop run.
