Our First House in Tucson – Memoir Continued

Our First House in Tucson

The house came together pretty well. We set it up comfortably with a combination of things we brought with us and furnishings we picked up here and there after we arrived. We did buy new bed frames and mattresses.

Both Ming and Che settled in well. There was a chain link fence around the property, so Che could go outside pretty much whenever he wanted. Ming was an indoor cat and getting pretty old by the time we moved to Tucson and never wanted out.

There was a small Casita behind our house on the property, which the lease management company had leased to a young woman and her daughter. They were busy with their own affiairs and didn’t interact with us much, other than normal civilities.

There was also a beautiful, large Eucalyptus tree in the front yard, between the porch and the outer chain link fence, which gave us plenty of shade in the hot summer.

Once we were settled in, we discovered that the place was in structurally worse shape than we’d been led to believe. So we started looking for another house soon after arriving. It took us six months to find our next (and hopefully, final) home destination. And as fate would have it, it was only a block away, around one corner, and at the next intersection corner.

It was not available when we arrived and was being renovated for sale (unbeknownst to us). It was ready when we were. We actually put a bid on it before the for sale signs went up. And we got it.
