Here we go again…
Another Late August Ride
a flock of pigeons erupts from the desert floor
a low cloud rolling over blousy foliage
and the cracked dry ground
in accordance with the blazing sun above
9 o’clock in the eastern sky, with feathery
fair weather clouds on the eastern horizon
contradicting today’s forecast thunderstorm
warnings for late afternoon and evening
probably wrong … as usual
the verdant riverbed
lush with thorny bushes and weed-trees
little streamlets cutting through
remnants of the receding floodwaters
from a few days ago
as a lone coyote prowls the far bank
at least the air is fresh and easy to breath
wicks the sweat from my face as I
facedown the long ride home
