End of August – Ride
feathery fair weather clouds
marble the cerulean dome
bright sun heats up the eastern sky
white, yellow, and orange butterflies
flit among blousy Brittlebush blossoms
and the faint odor of sage
barrel and elephant ear cacti
and prickly pear in bloom from
the recent monsoons
a large falcon lands on the guardrail
as we approach, hawkeye-ing me
as we roll by
still some water under the Congress
street bridge, but the washes are
all bone-dry
end of August as Labor Day
weekend begins this year
but that is a different consideration
altogether
