Wraiths Caught In The Storm

Looking around on any given day
Surveying what human civilization
Has wrought, the consequence of
Our deepest philosophical thought

A tear forms in my eye
Spills and slides down my cheek
Raise my hand to wipe it away
But there’s nothing there…

Translucent wraiths caught in the storm
Best intentions perverted to
Plundering beautiful biodiversity
For greed’s sake and hegemonic might

A tear forms in my eye
Watching our demise with a sigh
Greenhouse gasses browning our skies
Belie utopian fantasies of all stripes

I raise my hand to wipe the tear away
And there’s nothing there but
Particulate iching, as ancient memories swarm
Translucent wraiths, shimmering in the storm
