Modern Civilization

Some may accuse me of being a pessimist. I’m not, but some of my poems may make me seem so. These poems are the result of the mainstream media and the ‘clickbait’ my friends insist on reading to me, even though I refuse to read that incendiary rubbish myself. They are the result of my assulted senses dealing with what appears to be the ‘consciousness of our age’, also informed by what I see going  on around the world on a daily basis. –LE

Modern Civilization

civilization
stager-stepping
across mother-earth

stumbling, tumbling
face-planting in
its waste-renderings

poisoned water
land and air
nothing left to share

but disease
and greed
its final seeds

millions dead
suffering billions
trillions spent

hubris its
legacy and its
final trend

just another
evolutionary
dead-end
