clouds like waves-crests
with blue peeking through

dappled cloud shadows
moving across the Tucson
and Santa Catalina ranges

intense and hazy sunshine
golden drops
dribbling through

harbinger of an early spring
Brittlebush starting to bloom
Greasewood’s strong perfume

nomad tracks going to and fro
up and down the dry
riverbed – modern gypsies?

roadrunner starts to cross our path
but does an about face with
cartoon wheels spinning

disappears in among the
Brittlebush spines
