Desert Home – Early Morning

Desert Home – Early Morning

Ceiling-fan lazily
Spinning round and round
Wafts a gentle breeze
With little-to-no sound
Stick-fan in the corner
Whirring away
Air currents pulse
As it oscillates
To and fro and finally
Back this way

Opened the doors
At sunrise
Before the morning
Temperatures rise
For another day with the
House buttoned up
The cooling AC way

It’s to be another
Three-digit day
The Fahrenheit scale says

“But it’s a dry heat”
Should be easier to bear
But it’s still hot
Like it or not
Stay hydrated
Keep the heatstroke
Away

Not too much of a
Problem for me
Except when I’m out
In our bright Sonoran
High desert sun
For more than a
Brief walk or ride
Between ramadas
And home-side
