Cool Early Fall Ride
cool morning
in the mid 60s F
high 70s F
on the return
cloudless dome
but for a few billows
plumping up from the
distant northern peaks
sunlight sparkles off
the receding flood waters
rolling north to the
waiting Gila
the roar of RC
model boats
rooster-tailing on
Silverbell lake
shattered the
morning’s gentle
peace
a couple of fat
skinks zigzaged
across the path
and a large black
bird of prey
rode the gyres up
over the Santa Cruz
and away south
twenty-two miles
spinning and mashing
rolled into the driveway
clothes sodden and
clinging inconveniently
straight to the shower
then a long
nap

Sounds invigorating, but I’d probably need more than a nap to recover. 🥵
No sun here today…clouds outside and in. 💙

Lol…those are good. Mine are usually in the late afternoon, then I’m ready to go until 1 to 2 am.

Even with a long nap, I need to be in bed by 10 or 11 at the latest if I’m to be any good at all in the morning…; -)

I don’t get up until around 8am, and 5 or 6 hours has always been about my usual amount of sleep. Especially, if I get that afternoon nap. 😊

Unfortunately, I can’t usually get myself to sleep as much as I’d like, I’m usually up between 5:30 and 6am. I had to do that for so many years; it’s just an unbreakable habit now, I guess… 4-6hrs of sleep per night has been my average for the 50 years, at least…; -)

I’ve always been a night owl, but at the last job I had for 23 years before retiring, I had to get up at 4:45 am. I was lucky to be able to go to sleep by 11pm, but usually it was later. It took a couple of years, but I was finally able to sleep until around 8am. I’m a grouch when I wake, don’t even want to talk for an hour or so.

I’m pretty grumpy first thing in the morning unless I get a half-hour or so to meditate (frequently out in my zen garden around the sunrise), bring my mind and body into alignment and at least one cup of coffee, gives me a good start for almost any day…; -)

Sounds nice…I won’t even bore you with how my day usually begins.
