The Future – Now Past
Conventional
Sands of time in the hourglass
The future passing through now
Becomes the past
Or
The future flows down time’s river
Whitewater’s raging fury
Beneath the bridge of eternal now
Into memory and the downstream past
Or Less Conventional
Past present and future
Ebbing and flowing
Fully encompassed
In the eternal now

PS: These categories on ‘convention’ are based on my early social and educational conditioning. Their definition may vary depending on yours…; -)
Plus: All our ideas are fiction, created to explain our perceptions of reality. To paraphrase Nietzsche, there are no such things as facts, just perceptions. And whichever perceptions hold sway are functions of power, not truth. [Since ‘truth’ is beyond our human ken]…

Wonderful, insightful poem, Liam.
But I do hold a differing opinion about your closing comment. I believe there are basic truths that aren’t just constructs the mind. I do not believe in that “my truth” “your truth” BS, just THE truth.

I agree that there may be ‘truths’ or even possibly something one could call ‘the truth’. But contrary to your view, in my huble opinion, any such ‘truth’ is beyond the understanding of any human, and probably AI, too. Thus, my addition of ‘beyond human ken’…; -)
To change my view, I’d need to see irrefutable, peer-reviewed evidence of which there is none, and I suspect never will be. I have absolutely no ‘faith’ in faith, religious or secular…; -)

I have no faith in faith either, but still believe there are some irrefutable truths.
