Mid-October Sunday Morning Ride

Mid-October Sunday Morning Ride

the morning air moist and fresh
after yesterday’s rain
large and small animal tracks
standing out in the damp but
drying mud of the riverbed
a little standing water
here and there
but the floodwaters
are gone

a multitude of skinks
crisscrossing the path
finally out of their
hidey-holes a-trollin’

the sky overhead
a brilliant deep blue
faded to the horizons
artist-clouds of
Payne’s gray to China white
with a few strokes of
purple for a sultry delight

a mirage to the north
range after range of mountains
beyond the everyday scene
clouds sprouting like
white afros from their crowns
as a large Eagle sails in lazy circles
riding the currents up overhead

a fifteen mile ride end to end
finally home and ready to
descend into a nap
after I put down my digital pen

PS: Yes, I’m feeling alive and reinvigorated this fine October morning…; -)
