My Youngest Sister
My youngest sister
took her final breath
this morning around
midnight
We were never close
too many years between us
our worlds
but intermittent glimpses
Hers
of a working single mom
divorced and independent
stood on her own in her far-off home
Now she’s gone before her time
She should be writing these lines
not me
a distant brother
far older
There seems no reason nor rhyme
for the length and intensity of time
we wander in awe
the tooth and claw
that seem to prevail
in this realm of peak
and travail
A bad dream ?
We suffer the loss
hoping to eventually
meet again
Hoping in vain

Sorry for your loss, Liam! Even though you weren’t close, grief is never easy on the heart..

Thank you, Ana, my friend! The older I get, the harder it is to control my tears … but perhaps it’s just pollen or dust in the air … again…; -)

I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister. It’s jarring when someone younger than us, especially if there was no serious illness involved, leaves this earthly plane before we do. And you’re right—no rhyme or reason to this life. 💔

Kate, thanks for your kind words. I really don’t know how long her illness was; no one close to her is talking yet. Thanks again…; -)

Some people like to keep a serious illness to themselves, telling no one that doesn’t have to know. Maybe your sister felt that way. I know I do.
I hope you find closure on the cause of your sister’s passing soon, Liam. 💙

Thanks, Kate! I know that I will… And yes, people seldom want to expose their vulnerabilities … especially when serious…
