Long Life

Long Life

I’ve lived a long life
relatively speaking
compared to ancestors
ages long past

it seems life expectancy
is about to increase
exponentially
due to science and tech

provided we keep our wits
don’t force extinction by
those same gambits
coming home to haunt us

Gambits, yes
human hubris being so
ubiquitous among our
scientists and engineers

not to mention those who
rule and own us…
makes ‘long life’ seem
questionable at best.

PS: Bare with me. My cynicism has carried the day today; I’m sure tomorrow will be better, hopefully anyway…; -)

  1. It seems to me that in most cases, our lives aren’t extended, but our deaths. I’ve seen so many propped up by drugs and “treatments” suffer for years, their quality of life greatly diminished, before finally passing on. In most of these cases, it’s a relief to those people to at long last, find final peace.

    • Thanks for reading and commenting, Kate! You’re exactly right. That’s where the profit is, in an elongated, infinitely prolonged decline and death. There’s very little profit in cures, in eliminating sickness. No, the real, relatively healthy ‘life-extention’ will be reserved for the richest psychopaths among us, why I refer to it as ‘gambits’…
