Yellow Coffee Mug
It sits beside me
in the morning twilight
hot coffee aroma
enfolds my delight
it’s easy to spot
within easy reach
even in the semi-dark
when I’m ready to sip
pure coffee bliss
but first, I sit
gently breathing
enjoying the coffee
scented air
nowhere else to be
but there
awareness spreads out
expands beyond the yard
into the bustling street
far and away
then back to birds feeding
beside the rock garden
fountain splashing
next to me
then it draws my attention
tasting the brew
before I even feel
the ceramic surface
of my yellow coffee mug

Love your poem, Liam. It elicits such a peaceful feeling.
My favorite mug is white with a Far Side comic on it.

Thank you, Kate! I was feeling peaceful (usually am in the morning) … I did have the occasional Far Side comic pinned to my cubicle wall when I was working, and the occasional Dilbert, too — was a technical writer till the end — retirement, that is…; -)

I liked Dilbert too. Do you remember Bloom County? That was my all time favorite comic in the newspaper. Years and years ago, our local paper quit carrying it because it disparaged our then president. I can’t remember which one, though. Idiots. As a teenager and young adult, I alway bought Mad Magazine…loved it. What, me worry? π

Yes, I used to read Bloom Couty, too. And I also used to regularly buy Mad Magazine…; -)
