First Sunday Morning Of November

last day of Dia de los Muertos
its finale tonight

but this chill morning
our threesome rode out
with long shadows
throughout the Loop

with bright blue overhead
and lush green
in the riverbed
and plenty of Brittlebush
raised their yellow heads

the path was pretty crowded
walkers and some with dogs
as impatient bikers
played chicane through us all

we turned around at the
El Camino del Cerro trailhead
where two ball diamonds
were warming up teams
for Little League play
parents and kids everywhere

twenty-three miles end to end
while the dog barked and barked
every and anywhere

finally home and trike put away
licking a raspberry popsicle today
cools me down
finally out of the fray
