2nd Sunday Morning Of November – On The Loop
rode out under a bright blue dome
fading to gossamer behind the peaks
to the horizons
not a cloud in the sky
not even a lousy contrail
ghost of the waning gibbous moon
hovers at eleven o’clock
in the western sky
or two o’clock in the southern view
morning’s long shadows
dappled the path
and the riverbed was dry
even where the still waters
had left muddy dips
were covered with
thick layers of dust
a good morning for
walking or riding
but not very many
were ready to take that step
I guess
only saw one bird of prey
gliding over us
for part of the way
but the ‘prey’ were
nowhere to be seen
at least to my eye
luminous yellow blooms
Brittlebush and
Desert Marigolds
gleamed in the morning sun
like halos of gold
crowding the shoulders
on sections of the Loop
as we rolled along
home after a
three-hour cruise
out to El Camino
del Cerro, by way of
Silverbell Lake and
the Sweetwater Wetlands
Catrike put away
popsicle done
relaxing as I
attempt to display
my thanks and vision
for this day
