Cool December Morning

cool and clear
morning in December
pristine sky
reflects the deep
blue sea

as luminous
Brittlebush blossoms
seem to float on
the desert’s parched and
caliche-strewn lees

no wild animals
out today
none want to be
‘the prey
of the day’

and neither do I
