To paraphrase an old song: You can’t always get what you ask for, but sometimes you get what you need…; -)

I’ve heard that there are no accidents or coincidences in life, only lessons. The problem I have with that is that it’s just another story (fiction) we tell ourselves, just like all the others. Every single history, philosophy, religion, culture, ‘civilization’, whatever … was made up in a human mind or collective of human minds. That’s the only place our stories about ourselves come from…

Sure, in the sense of evolution, every ‘thing’, condition, obstacle, or success/failure is a learning experience (a lesson)… on the genetic scale.

Can we mentally/physically (macro-level) also learn from those experiences? Of course. So, in that sense, yes, there are only lessons in life, but they are lessons that we don’t always, consistently, or even very often learn from…

That is, only the successful journies from birth to reproduction have a chance of evolutionary ‘success’… at least that’s what the research seems to say… So far…; -)
