Last Sunday In December – Morning Ride On The Tucson Loop

rode out under a bright December morning sky
after 3 days of off and on again yin-rain
the river and washes were dry

desert Marigolds’ bright yellow blooms
shouldered the path in a few swaths
and two small contrails marked the blue above
one heading south, looking like a nosedive
while the other marched to the northwest
looking more like a takeoff

only a few bikies out today
‘if you get and outfit [and a bike]
you can be a bikie too’
as an old poem of mine refrains
ah, such conceit, quoting myself

didn’t see any fauna today
must still be celebrating in their
dens and hidden party places
far from the gawkers riding the loop
on this last Sunday morning
in December
