It’s A New Year

a new year with its
new priorities
resolutions
clean slates
and such ?

or

the eternal
ever-present now
connecting what
we thought we knew
to a future
completely unknown

every instant of now
another step in the
cosmic dance and flow

no slates are clean
marked with actions and
memories indelible in and
with our personalities
conditioned by proximities

so, even without
the vaunted ‘clean slate’
all resolves must be
worked on here and now
or not at all

there is only now
the past,  a distorted memory
the future does not yet exist
but in hopeful or cynical
expectations
an existential risk

with only a couple
guarantees
