Save Our VA Tucson – 2/13/26

Three of us held the line this morning from 6:30-8:00 am for the shift change at the Ajo entrance of the Tucson VA.

A light rain lasted for the first half hour, which stopped and began again around 7:45.

The response rate was about the same as the last couple of weeks, 75-80%, with only 2 obvious negatives. The same one as last time, driving a Miada convertable, top up, windows down, yelled “F***-Off” as he rolled by. We heard him clearly as there was a lull in the traffic din right then… I just laughed and waved…; -)

With the rain and heavy skys, the sunrise was less spectacular this morning… fairly uncommon in Tucson…

      • It will probably be raining cats and dogs when I wake up tomorrow…supposed to rain all day. I feel for the couples who have plans to go out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Until he physically couldn’t do it anymore, my husband always got me flowers, my favorite chocolate, and took me out to eat. When he couldn’t any longer, I did it for him, except I picked up the food and brought it home. Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day, Liam?

      • I have issues with V-day… my last ex asked for a divorce after flowers and dinner on V-day in ’96… But my current partner and I do gennerally go out for dinner sometime during that week…; -)

      • No, but we’ll eat out sometime in the next few days, perhaps tomorrow. And I’ll get her another orchid sometime between now and her birthday. She likes them better than cut flowers. Most of hers have lasted for years and bloom cyclicly. She has several different varieties and colors.
        Happy Valentine’s Day, Kate… 💕 😊

      • That’s very sweet of you, Liam. I’m sure she’ll love the orchid. My favorite house plants are succulents, easy to care for if they get enough sun. My husband wasn’t particularly fond of houseplants, but since it’s just me now, I bought myself a rubber tree today. Haven’t had one since my first marriage during which I had a houseful of plants.
It’s a little late, but Happy Valentine’s Day to you, Liam. 💌😊💕🌹

      • And to you 😊
I’m a fan of succulents as well. Most of my homes throughout the years were filled with house plants. My favorite was a giant Jade Tree that I carried from one home to another. I finally gave it to my oldest daughter when I moved out here. The Rubber Tree sounds magnificent… I hope it brings you joy…; -)

  1. It’s only a couple of feet tall, but it will grow. When my first husband died and I moved to the city, I had a few plants over six feet tall that I gave to my daughter-in-law. One, a snake plant, a prickly cactus, and a three-braided ficus tree. They all died under her watch. 🥲

    • I’ve usually had snake plants (mother-in-laws tongue) in all my homes… love them. But here, I don’t have room for large plants inside, though we have many large ones just outside our door, plenty of Agaves and cacti, as well as lemon and grapefruit trees…; -)
