Early March Morning On The Tucson Loop

Early March Morning On The Tucson Loop

Gossamer white swaths on pale to dark blue,
the sky, an abstract painting in bright hues,
the southern mountains silhouetted in sheer mists.

Walkers and cyclists dotted the path north to south,
most not paying particular attention
to the stark beauty surrounding them.

The yellow buds of Greasewood and Mesquite
paying homage to the high desert’s early Spring
their fresh perfume scenting the morning air.

A skink darts across my path, the first I’ve seen this year.
Noticed a few birds in flight and a few perched nearby.
No other fauna encountered today… still hidden away.

Made a pit-stop at the Falcon Trailhead and
snapped a couple of photos of that mostly deserted place.
Never seen more than a few travelers stopped in that space.

Home again, my recumbent stored away
for tomorrow’s early morning ride to the Tucson VA’s
Ajo gate for the shift change and to demonstrate…
