Are you superstitious?
Not really… I equate it to traditional religions, practicing ‘formulas’ for conduct and mental / spiritual ‘proper behaviors’ (morality).
They, like the four leaf clover, knocking on wood, throwing salt over your shoulder, or calling on deities of any ilk (Greek, Norse, Hebrew, elemental, psychic, etc.), are just stories we tell ourselves to help us through tough times. They give us the illusion of ‘understaneing reality’. Yes, that’s an ‘understanding’, but I sincerely doubt that any of it is ‘reality’.
I have nothing against those who have faith in any of those stories, as long as they don’t try to legislate their beliefs into laws that force anyone else into their belief systems and practices…
I do follow some philosophical guidelines though, ‘live and let live’ and do no intentional harm. I’m thankful for my time in this life. I hold no grudges, ever… they do me more harm than anyone else. Likewise, I forgive everything/one; not doing so would only harm me. And I do my best to support what I consider positive community efforts. And yes, that’s subjective, but there it is…
So, am I superstitious? No… I don’t think so… but then again, the only constant in life is change, and I don’t know what my emotional / mental state will be in the future. But I sincerely hope that I remain superstition-free…; -)
