Mid March Morning Ride
milky sunshine leaves dark patches
where shadows of trees normally lay
usual outlines are not on display
a heavily marbled sky
to the east and south
the mountains all around
just silhouettes deep in the mists
still water pools left by rains
from last week and the other day
dapple the otherwise dry riverbed
under bridges and shaded spaces
where many shades of green
and yellow render a dazzling
Tucson spring display
too many ‘spandex-clad weenies’
roving in large groups on the Loop
hurtling past normal walkers and riders
as if a race track, all theirs
always in a big hurry
with no place to go
but must be first to get there
but there is no there, there
what is it about spandex
that impresses them
with themselves so much?
ah, but I digress…
roadrunners were out in force
seeking meals or mates
one can only guess
or perhaps just to play chicken
engage the ‘weenies’ in their
inevitable race
to nowhere…
also saw a few pigeons
and an awesome peregrine
diving into the riverbed
didn’t see the outcome
didn’t see the prey
didn’t see the peregrine
fly away
home at last
my Catrike put away
ready for the next excursion
early on any given day
along the Tucson
multi-use Loop
its hundred and thirty miles
for walking and play
