St. Patrick’s Day Morning Ride
springtime Sonoran foliage arrayed
in many shades of green
including Kelly
yellows dominated the blooms
from Brittlebush and Desert Marigolds
to Greasewood’s pimpled blooms and
the those on the crazy twisted shapes
of Mesquite
there was the iridescent peach
of Desert Mallow, an accent
functioning more like a comma
as we rolled along the Loop
didn’t see any fauna today
other than the human kind
in long ‘trains’ of spandex
shrink-wrapped wienies
hurrying by in both directions
some still water remained
under a couple of the bridges
but the vast majority of
the riverbed was ‘bone dry’
finally home after a couple
of hours of sun and blue sky
long since the wienie trains
blew by
I’ll indulge in some Irish Coffee
by and by…
