Dark Chocolate Covered Salted Caramels

The Old Man (self-portrait) –LE – Watercolor on multimedia paper 5×7″

Dark Chocolate Covered Salted Caramels

rich and chewy
tough enough to break
an old man’s brittle teeth
but he don’t care
dark chocolate and
salted caramel melts
his mouth in ecstasy
so there

as he spits
out a broken
tooth or two
or three
a few more
gaps in
his smile
he sees

he’ll wait awhile
self-indulgently
daintily-now nibbling
sliding impatient tongue
over and around his
dark chocolate covered
salted caramel
fantasy

  1. I love caramel chocolate, but don’t know if it’s worth a couple of teeth, even if imaginary ones. This reminds me of the first poem I read of yours, the Jethro Tull one. I think it’s because of the whimsical tone. Very nice!
