Security a Myth

mainstream and
social media sites bleed
murder larceny and
violence of every stripe
government leaders the
worst confidence men
this side of prison gates

brunt of
our conditioning
authoritarians convincing us
of our super vulnerability
need security forces
at their beck
and call

must spend
limited resources
to eliminate crime
the security myth the
excuse of all tyrants
but damn little for social-
economic equity

stop the daily
news social media
clickbait algorithms
poisoning minds
doom-scrolling
into helpless anxiety
and depression

giving up your
so-called freedoms your
common sense the
common good a more
perfect union for the
authoritarian myth
of security

  1. There is so much truth in this writing, especially when we bring social media into the mix. Perhaps there is no security and it is all a fabrication designed to speak to our sense of privacy . . . ❤

    The watercolor painting is nice, both colorful and serene. 💜 Did you paint it? I paint in watercolors and gouache, and by no stretch of the imagination, am I a professional, but I enjoy the process.

    • Thanks for reading, Jai. I did paint it. I try to only use my own paintings and photography in my posts. As you can tell, I’m no professional either. I come from a family of artists, mostly painters, To avoid the angst of competition in our house when I was young, I chose to develop my other creative outlets, music, and writing. Didn’t start painting till I retired.

      • Same here—never picked up a paintbrush until I retired from the workforce. As far as I know, outside of one nephew, I’m the only painter in my large, far-flung family, and the only writer. On occasion, I use my own paintings and photos for featured images, but usually just pick an appropriate image from a free site. I need to follow your example and use more of my own work.
        I like both your paintings and writing, Liam. Looking forward to more of both. 🙂
