From This Valley by The Civil Wars
Oh the desert dreams of a river
That will run down to the sea
Like my heart longs for an ocean
To wash down over me
Oh won’t you take me from this valley
To that mountain high above
Oh I will pray, pray, pray till I see your smiling face
I will pray, pray, pray to the one that I love
Oh the outcast dreams of acceptance
Just to find pure love’s embrace
Like an orphan longs for its mother
May you hold me in your grace
Oh won’t you take me from this valley
To that mountain high above
Oh I will pray, pray, pray till I see your smiling face
I will pray, pray, pray to the one that I love
Ooh, whoa oh, whoa oh oh
Ooh, whoa oh, whoa oh oh
Oh the caged bird dreams of a strong wind
That will flow beneath her wings
Like a voice longs for a melody
Oh Jesus, carry me
Oh won’t you take me from this valley
To that mountain high above
Oh I will pray, pray, pray till I see your smiling face
I will pray, pray, pray to the one that I love
Oh I will pray, pray, pray till I see your smiling face
I will pray, pray, pray to the one that I love

What a beautiful rendition, Liam, both the lyrics and band. And the singers voice is lovely. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Thanks, Kat! It’s not my usual thing, but I do like this rendition… another Pandora discovery…; -)

It’s not my usual either—I’m more a classic rock fan—but I do like it. As I’ve gotten older, I’m finding music I like in quite a few genres. I just discovered Leonard Cohen (Canada’s Bob Dylan) a few months ago, and like a lot of his music. “Closing Time” is my favorite.

Cohen has been a favorite of mine since my time in Ann Arbor. For much of my life, ‘Everybody Knows’ has been kind of my theme song…; -)

It’s a good theme song to claim as your own. My own, I think, would be “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks. 😆

I see…; -) I watched her perform it on youtube. It has a similar feel to the Women’s song by the HU, featuring Lzzy Hale: https://youtu.be/mdN1U9NvuIcL

I watched the video you linked to, and I see the similarity in theme. ‘’Song of Women” is much classier than “Bitch”, though.

The main difference I see is that ‘Bitch’ is a bit grungier than the other… I think they convey roughly the same message…; -)

I think all in all, I prefer grunge to class. Most things, I like a little rough around the edges. 😉

For me, class or the lack thereof is irrelevant. It’s whether the performance or the artist or music or lyric move me. Plus, it helps if it is rendered well…; -)

Most of the time, it’s the lyrics that speak to me. 🙂
