Lynn – Part 1

I was jamming with a couple of other guitarists in the empty choir room. The music in the air, flowing down the hallways, drew in a few curious spectators. One of them was Linda C., my old red-headed coffeehouse nemesis. To my surprise, she didn’t give me a hard time. In fact, she seemed to like what we were doing, and after the session concluded, she invited herself to have coffee with me in the student lounge and told me to call her Lynn, not Linda. Then she started ‘running into me’ all over the place, and we started having frequent long talks and/or coffee together. I thought that was odd since we didn’t have any classes together.

Lynn and I started going out, getting high, and eventually more. She was an ex-studio photographer, would-be guitarist, and singer, living with her Uncle Jim, who was an executive at White Trucking in Cleveland, along with his wife and kids. Her real home was in Alexandria, VA. She said she was living with her uncle to get away from the Washington DC area scene. I helped her with her guitar work on my guitar since she didn’t have one at the time, and we sang together. I let her take the leads and pretty much just sang harmonies for her, though I did sing a few solos. It wasn’t great, but acceptable. At that time, we never performed together anywhere, not even at the coffeehouse.
