Anne – Part 6 – Chris – Mom – Memoir Continued

Chris Graduates from College

Around the time of our wedding, my brother, Chirs, graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, OH. We all went to his final show, where he performed his theater-mime. It was a very good performance. I don’t remember for sure, but I think his degree was a BFA in Theater Arts.

Note: Jacqui is also going to school at BW, working there, and living in Berea at this time. I think Becky had just gotten married and was living in Lorain, while Bryan was still living at home with Mom and Dad. Guy had graduated from OU, Ohio University with a BFA in Studio Painting (I think) a few years prior to this. He hadn’t applied to the Graduate Program at Perdue yet. That’s still a couple of years down the road.

Mom’s Aneurysm

Shortly after our wedding, Mom developed a brain aneurysm. Dad took her to Lorain Community Hospital, where they operated. She was in intensive care for several days but eventually allowed to go home. Unfortunately, they couldn’t ‘fix’ the aneurysm, so they coated it with medical ‘superglue’ (Mom’s words). I guess that worked since she lasted several years before pancreatic cancer finally got her. But she was never the same after the aneurysm operation. She was always pretty ‘religious’, but way more so after her operation. She pretty much quit taking care of herself. She quit fixing meals or cleaning, or doing much more than watching TV (even sports, which she had hated previously), reading romance novels, and listening to ‘her music’. Dad took over all the household chores and cooking. I don’t think she ever left the house for any extended period again. She was also addicted to cigarettes and smoked until they made her quit in hospice during her last weeks of life. But again, I’m getting ahead of myself. That isn’t for quite a few years down the road.
