A True Memoir ~ Mostly
mental gymnastics
put yourself back
in time to
who you and they
were then
but with
hindsight perspective
evaluation and
introspection
attempt to be fair
to youself and
those who accompanied
you through
each of the physical
emotional and psychical
features of your
historical arc
cradle to grave
memoir needs a
personal perspective
but realistic truthful
evlauation of times
and events leading
to the writing nexus
it should not be
a historical romance
novel nor apologetics
as far as possible
an accurate and
emotionally truthful
account of your
personal and family’s
historical arc
hopefully picked up
and completed by
your decendants
just a
footnote
in human
history’s
book of
shadows
book of
unlikely
characters
its grimoire

I may have told you this before—there’s no way I could write a memoir. I tried years ago, got about 20 pages in, and decided I didn’t want my friends and family knowing my thoughts, or things I did that reflected badly on me. Or even good deeds I had done that I never told anyone. Weird, huh?

No, I don’t think it’s weird. I have had to suppress some of those same qualms in myself. But I haven’t laid out all my deeds, thoughts, hopes, and misgivings, only those that move the story… outline, really, of my family’s history along. I’ve only got about 38,000 words in it, so far, and I’ve reached a temporary dead-end. Can’t decide how I want to proceed. I might be to the point where I need to let my descendants pick up the tale…; -) In fact, I’m in a dry spell, creatively, at the moment.

Sorry about the dry spell. I’ve experienced them too. I used to write a lot of short fiction, but it’s been a long time since I’ve written anything new except for poetry. Who knows…I may never again.

That would be sad. I was enjoying your stories of the man-wolf and the witch…; -)

I have a lot of old short stories I have been thinking about posting. But in the past, it seemed most people didn’t have the attention span to read stories; they just wanted sound bites.

Acutlly, I get that, I tend to only skim long narratives. But I was completely caught up in the stories of yours that I came across…; -)

I may throw a couple out there in the near future and see what happens.
