Another reprised poem from the past year of this blog.
SS & Medi-dare
SS retired – required – inspired
just plain tired – almost expired
expiration date all up to fate
emancipated and medicated
perhaps need bruja-ha
or shaman help truer
SS short-shrift – left adrift
SS sucking sound as
austerity abounds – moving
wealth by fiat to leach-class
warehouses for the greed
brokers and their want-a-bees
medicare not really there
less money for private
providers pirate connivers
no vision nor dental –
no meds less parts
C thru Z – extra fees
Where’s my bruja?

Getting old has some perks, but overall it sucks.

True, but I think I’m in some ways much better off now than when I was in the wage-slave rat race…; -)

I was a housewife while raising mine and first husband’s son—who was born when I was barely 17–but when he graduated high school, I started working. I actually enjoyed working until the last few years of my career. I retired early when I was 63.

I had a few enjoyable intervals during my working career, but mostly, it was a harrowing rat race trying to make ends meet, keep food on the table and essential bills paid. I frequently didn’t succeed. I also retired early, 62…; -)

For me, money was tight when I was a housewife, but my husband and I both wanted our son to have a parent at home, so we made it work.
When I started working, I gave 100%, and was quickly promoted and received good raises. Life got a lot easier then.

I’m truly pleased that it worked out so well for you…; -) As you have seen from my memoir, that wasn’t the case for me, especially during my marriages and their aftermaths… As I’ve indicated, my life since retirement has been considerably better… 🙂
