Another reprised poem from the past year of this blog
Irony of Ironies
Sometimes it’s all too tiring
facts and opinions
beliefs and conditioning
propaganda commercials
internal dilemma
cognitive dissonance
Sometimes it’s all too
pedantic too
semantic too
cerebral or too
emotional to appreciate
the irony of it all
Survival depends on
cooperation of the whole
brains and hearts
individual and community
humanity and our ecology
lest humankind ends
Alone and forgotten
in burned-out remnants
of abundance of our
once high civilization
irony of ironies is
the key we missed
Fighting ourselves
we’ve lost it all
heart and mind and soul
and home and community
despite the high-functioning
intellect that once defined us
And the sentience
that follows will not
be ours, perhaps another
plane of cosmic string
a condition of existence
universal or quantum
On to the next
evolutionary adaptation
the current one
having committed suicide
by ecocide and hubris
irony of ironies

Humanity is a hot mess. Maybe when we die off—however that comes about—something better will take our place. One can hope.
