Black River Mystery

Another reprised poem from the past year of this blog

Black River Mystery

down in the Black River
floodplain not far from
cattails and clumps of
river-birch, snuggled in
with rag-weed, Queen
Anne’s Lace and St. John’s
Wort sits a square patch
of young five and seven
frond-leaf plantings six
feet high, approaching
harvest strength – perhaps
next week

where did they go
big mystery of the floodplain
dry patch of ground – five
and seven frond dream-
makers gone incognito
Black River floodplain
mystery – unsolved

      • My friend, bummer Fred, and I had spent months cultivating and babying those plants only to have them ripped out from under our noses with no clue as to who or why. Could have been Fereral or county agents, some goody-two-shoes boy scouts, or greedy thieves. It’s something that I’ve pondered of the years, but with no solutions…; -)

      • 1st husband and I lived in the country, lots of woods around. When he was out hunting or fishing, quite a few times husband ran across someone’s “garden”. He just kept his mouth shut and went on his way, said he didn’t want to piss off anyone. Some gardeners were known to not take kindly to people that bothered their work. And he didn’t partake, so that made it easy to pass up.

      • Sorry for your loss… I’ve done both, plus LSD, Psilocybin, and mescaline… though I haven’t done any of the hallucinogens for many years. None are as hard on your system as alcohol though. Micordosing Psilocybin is being used now to treat PTSD, addiction, and some other psychological disorders with excellent results, and none of the side effects of the more traditional drugs used for those treatments…; -)

      • I’ve never done any drugs other than alcohol, and I didn’t do a whole lot of that. Since my 30’s, I’ve only had a mixed drink or two on rare occasions. I don’t like the feeling of not being completely clear-headed. Weird, I know.

      • No, I don’t think that’s weird. I’ve been interested in altered states of consciousness most of my life, starting with the stories of religious mystics like Jesus, Buddha, and the mysteries of Raja Yoga, Kundilini Yoga, etc. I started meditating regularly in high school, and after that, friends told me that pot could help in that. So I tried it, and it did. Then, as I got braver, I started trying other ‘enhancements’, starting with acid during my time in Ann Arbor… The rest is history… so to speak…; -)
