Leave a Light On
by Tom Walker
The second someone mentioned you were all alone
I could feel the trouble coursing through your veins
Now I know, it’s got a hold
Just a phone call left unanswered had me sparking up
These cigarettes won’t stop me wondering where you are
Don’t let go, keep a hold
If you look into the distance, there’s a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse
It’s a place where you’ll be safe to feel our grace
‘Cause we’ve all made mistakes
If you’ve lost your way
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
Tell me what’s been happening, what’s been on your mind
Lately, you’ve been searching for a darker place to hide
That’s alright
But if you carry on abusing, you’ll be robbed from us
I refuse to lose another friend to drugs
Just come home, don’t let go
If you look into the distance, there’s a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse
It’s a place where you’ll be safe to feel our grace
‘Cause we’ve all made mistakes
If you’ve lost your way
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
If you look into the distance, there’s a house upon the hill
Guiding like a lighthouse
It’s a place where you’ll be safe to feel our grace
And if you’ve lost your way
If you’ve lost your way
I will leave the light on
And I know you’re down and out now, but I need you to be brave
Hiding from the truth ain’t gonna make this all okay
I see your pain
If you don’t feel our grace and you’ve lost your way
Well, I will leave the light on
I will leave the light on
‘Cause I will leave the light on

Powerful song…it’s sad that so many grapple with addiction.
I have a dear nephew, who is more like a son, that battled drug addiction—mostly meth— from his late teens until about two years ago (he is now 47). A friend of his, a reformed addict, talked my nephew into going to church with him, and that is what saved him. Whatever it takes….

Whatever works… agreed. But I’m really insensed by the pharmaceutical industrial complex that’s responsible for so many of the addictions… And of course, they continue to blame their victims…; -/

And what about the doctors who prescribe them?
I’m lucky in that I have a primary care physician who doesn’t hand out pills willy-nilly. He knows the stress I’m under at home but doesn’t try to put me on antidepressants or anything; he just listens and offers encouragement. When I was around 35 I started going to him when he first set up his practice. I hate the thought of him retiring.

Yes, I’m equally irritated by the ‘pill-doctors’/pushers…
Sounds like you lucked out with your doctor. I haven’t seen one in more than 20 years… no real need… so yes, I’ve lucked out too…; -)
