Empty Coffee Cup
Coffee cup is empty…
Again.
How many’s that today?
One, two…ten?
I guess I’ll make more…
With cinnamon or chocolate,
Or perhaps
Irish cream?
Or do I want my usual
Just plain, no additives
Strong, deep, and dark, the
Color and consistency of
My back-lit heart?

Great poem, Liam! I see darkness coiled within it, but also…something else I can’t quite pin down. I’ll have to study on it.
Nice drawing too. Are you a Star Trek fan?

Thanks, Kate. I’m pleased you like it. Yes, there is a little darkness there. It often happens unitentionally, but I do intentionally insert a little ambiguity from time to time. I like that people can have their own interpretation, which may agree with mine… or not… that’s fine with me…; -)

Oh, and yes, I am… at least I was, for many years, a Star Trek fan; though I haven’t been into it as much lately. Now, I’m looking forward to the 2nd installment of the new Dune movies…; -)

On Paramount Plus there’s a series called Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” I like. It takes place before Kirk captains the Enterprise. The captain is Christopher Pike, Spock’s captain before Kirk. Paramount Plus is the home of everything Star Trek.
