Jerry’s Demise 2009 – Memoir Continued
I’m not sure of the date, but when I heard about Jerry’s headaches and subsequent operation that left him in a vegetative(?) state, I went to MO to see Kristen and Jerry. I wanted to see how bad it was and if I could be of any support. Kristen’s mom, Lynn, was staying with her and helping with Jerry, who was non-communicative, as far as I could see. I talked to him for a little while, but there was no indication that he was aware of my presence.
I stayed for a few days, visited Ian, then went back home. A couple of months later, Kristen informed me that he had taken a turn for the worse and had to go back into the hospital. After study and treatment, they decided to take him off life support, and he passed soon after. It was, in my opinion, the only humane thing to do.
I was unable to get away for the funeral. This was also my last year at Phillips, and I had no benefits with the company, so no personal time off. Kristen moved back to Cleveland later that year as well.
