Retirement – Moved to Ashland KY 1/15/2010
Tina retired around her birthday in 2009. She sold her house and bought one in Ashland, KY. Her daughter, Robin, was living close to Ashland, just outside Huntington WV at the time. So, over the last year before she retired, we had taken a few weekend trips to KY to see if there was any place she liked and could afford after selling her house. She settled on a small house about a mile south of the OH River on the northeast side of Ashland.
She had invited me to move in with her and share the expenses once I retired. So, two weeks after my last day at Philips, I drove a 30’ U-Haul with all my possessions (yes, and Moki – my cat – too) and my car on a car-dolly to Ashland. The trip took about 5 hrs.
I was lucky; the snow had been plowed in northern OH and was non-existent by the time I reached Ashland. We lived there for 9 years. The next move would be to Tucson AZ. But that’s several years down the road.
There will be more about my life in Ashland coming up. I’ll get into our volunteer work and life there in general. The Tucson section will bring us to the present.
