The Move – The Journey (2/2)

After many miles of sagebrush, wind farms, and advertised gas stations that were no longer in service or just currently closed, we crossed into New Mexico with more of the same. We traveled many empty highways on our way west and south from I-40 to I-10. But before we got to I-10, we spent our last night on the road in a small, quaint motel. Each room was decorated in a different theme. Our room was beach-themed. Tina loved it. We talked about coming back and staying there for occasional getaways.

There were no restaurants in that little hamlet in the mountains just east of the Arizona border, so we ate the snacks we’d previously picked up during one of our gas stops for our dinner.

The rest of the trip involved fairly heavy traffic on I-10 into Tucson. There were several major slowdowns. We never did find out what was stopping and slowing the flow. About an hour east of Tucson traffic was stopped. no one was going anywhere. So, I left the freeway at the next exit, looking for an alternative route. My GPS took us down some out of the way little roads and wanted us to travel several miles on what looked like an old cow-path. I chickened out and wound my way back onto the freeway. Fortunately, the traffic had started to move again.

We arrived at the house Tina had rented for us online about 4 in the afternoon, about 2 hours later than we’d antisipated. Scott was there with the keys to let us in. We unloaded the truck the next day. I took it and the dolly to the U-Haul lot that was designated in the rental contract, which was on the other side of town, even though there was one less than a mile from the house.

The next challenge was to turn the rental into our home for the next few months, at least. And it proved to be a challenge, indeed.

    • Thanks for reading and commenting, Underthejacaranda! The only quasi scary aspect of the place was the rental management company… a money hungry lot… We stayed there for 6 months, then found something we liked better. That’s coming up in a future ‘memoir’ post…; -)
