We Bought a House in The South End of Tucson

We had walked in the neighborhood many times, but had not paid much attention to the house we’d eventually buy. It just looked too expensive and out of our reach. We didn’t even know it would be up for sale by the time we were looking to buy something.

Through the credit union where we were doing our banking, we were introduced to a real-estate agent who showed us several places. But everything we were interested in was bought out from under us until this one, the one we finally chose, came to market. It was only four blocks from the Arizona VA, which was important to Tina. She offered more than the owner was asking and got the house.

We moved into our new home in September of 2019, just six months after arriving in Tucson. Yes, we broke our lease on the first place and paid the fees for doing so. We also got most of our damage deposit back… a rarity, so I’m told. But that shouldn’t be a surprise as we did improve the place considerably since moving in. We had even considered buying it. But the structural damage I’ve already spoken of ended that consideration.

There was a lot to do to set up our new home. There was the main house and a workshop/garages across the back yard from the house, which Scott, Tina’s son turned it into a Casita and garage and moved in, letting his apartment near the U of A go. So, now we split our expenses three ways.

First thing we did was put two dump truck loads of colored gravel down in the backyard and drive and three in the front yard to control the dust and start our landscaping.

To be Continued…
